🎧 1 history ⭐ Unmissable

The first oceanarium in Mauritius and the whole Mascarene archipelago, Odysseo immerses visitors in the depths of the Indian Ocean without leaving dry land, in the heart of Port Louis’s historic seafront.

Did you know?

1-A regional first — Odysseo opened its doors on 6 September 2021 at Les Salines, on the Port Louis seafront, right next to the Caudan Waterfront. It is the very first oceanarium ever built in Mauritius, and the largest in the whole Mascarene archipelago. 2-An impressive scale — The site covers around 5,500 m² and gathers 45 tanks holding nearly 2 million litres of water. At opening, it already housed around 3,500 to 4,500 specimens representing more than 200 species native to the Indian Ocean. 3-An environmental mission above all — Backed by the Mauritian group Eclosia, in partnership with a coral research centre, Odysseo presents itself less as an amusement park than as an educational platform dedicated to raising public awareness — Mauritian and tourist alike — of the challenges facing the region’s fragile marine ecosystems. 4-A site steeped in history — The oceanarium stands on the seafront that Governor Mahé de La Bourdonnais turned into a strategic port in the 18th century, in a town named in honour of King Louis XV. The waters that today hold Odysseo’s tanks once saw the Arab, Portuguese, Dutch and then French ships that shaped the island’s history pass by.
