🎧 1 history ⭐ Unmissable

Opened in 1985 in the wild south of the island, this wildlife park is home to the largest captive colony of Aldabra giant tortoises in the world, alongside thousands of Nile crocodiles.

Did you know?

The park is home to more than 1,000 Aldabra giant tortoises, including Domino, a hundred-year-old male weighing 275 kilos — an average shell weighs around 250 kg, and some individuals live beyond 100 years old. The park’s name comes from the old vanilla plantations that once occupied this fertile southern region. Its insectarium, one of the largest in the Indian Ocean, brings together more than 23,000 insect species collected from around the world over 30 years.
