Did you know?

The name comes from Jean Dominique Michel de Caudan, who came from Languedoc in France and created a salt marsh here as early as 1726. The site hides a fascinating history behind its modern walls: the whole Indian Ocean’s first weather observatory now houses the food court and the Namasté restaurant, while the Blue Penny Museum occupies the former docks office. Don’t miss the famous “Rue des Parapluies” (Umbrella Street), a strikingly colourful and photogenic spot.
