Pieter Both

🎧 1 history

Recognisable by the huge rock seemingly balanced on its summit, Pieter Both is one of Mauritius’s most astonishing mountains and the island’s second-highest peak.

Did you know?

Pieter Both rises to about 820 metres and belongs to the Moka mountain range. Its name refers to Pieter Both, governor-general of the Dutch East Indies in the early 17th century. Its spectacular rocky head is the result of millions of years of erosion of ancient volcanic formations. Unlike some Mauritian hikes accessible to the general public, the final climb up Pieter Both involves technical sections and should not be treated as a simple tourist walk.
